Generic Thanksgiving post

Gratitude, to me, is one of the most important things in this world. If you aren't grateful for what you have, why do you have it? I'm guilty of being ungrateful a lot, but lately I've been trying to turn that around. When I have a bad day, I stop before I go to bed and write down all the things I'm thankful for. Sometimes it's hard, but it always makes me realize that there are more things to be happy about than there are reasons to be sad.

So, without further ado, here is a list of some things I'm thankful for at the moment. Warning: this might get long.

  • My family. My parents are so supportive of me. They're paying for my food and housing. I come home every once in a while to take a break from Provo, and I just feel so loved when I'm here. My mom even does my laundry! My siblings are so much fun to hang out with--we're obviously related. There's a level of understanding that you cultivate from living with people for your entire life. I'm also thankful for my extended family. The people who make up my family tree are interesting, to say the least. I'm thankful for our quirks.
  • Friends. In a way, a lot of my friends are more like family. It never fails to astonish me when people accept me into their lives and love me. I'm so grateful to be able to be a part of others. Even when they come with drama. Shout out to a couple of my besties: Rachel, Ammon, Lily, and Lexi!
  • My roommates. They are fantastic. The end.
  • Chinese. It's helped me make deep connections with other people, and completely opened up my world. I'm not so culturally close-minded anymore.
  • Bad things that happen in life. They create a contrast that make everything else seem so much better in comparison.
  • Rain.
  • A body that is whole, free of debilitating disease, and is capable of doing things.
    • Eyes that work and let me see all the beauty in the world. Especially attractive men.
    • Ears that can hear the voices of my loved ones and music.
    • Hands that are multitalented: I can hold other people's hands, play piano, type, plant things, play with hair, cook, etc.
    • Legs that walk me to school every day and up the endless stairs that are absolutely everywhere at BYU
    • Feet that put up with all the abuse I give them.
  • My apartment, which is absurdly cheap for how nice it is.
  • Intelligence, both in myself and others. I'm smart. Don't judge, I was born that way. It's so refreshing to have a decent conversation with people about literature, or science, or art, or anything a little more deep.
  • Theatre. Once upon a time, I enjoyed participating, and now it's still nice to watch from the audience. It's a medium that I believe changes lives, and I'm grateful for well-done pieces that make me think.
  • My job. I make a marvelous wage for work that's not very demanding.
  • Footie pajamas.
  • Snuggies.
  • Fuzzy animals.
  • Children. They have the most amazing insights, and they're just so darn cute.
  • Books.
  • Blogs. They give me an insight into other people's lives, even if I'm not able to talk to them all the time. Okay, I'm a stalker.
  • My laptop. Benny's with me through thick and thin. He gives me instant access to Facebook, blogs, Asian dramas, and an entire world of information.
  • Google. It lets me be an expert on anything, and answer my roommate's questions.
  • My fake husband on Facebook
  • Ridiculous Korean dramas that make me glad my life isn't full of manufactured angst.
  • The Gospel. It's such an influence in my life. I wouldn't be me without it.
  • Modern medicine
  • Cars. You don't really appreciate them until you walk everywhere. Walking distance to me is now within 3 miles. Close is within a mile. Sitting in a car is such a luxury.
  • The knowledge that death isn't the end. I don't live in fear. I know that grief is only temporary. I'm so grateful to know that I can be with my family forever.
  • Debate. You meet intelligent people and learn to look at every issue from different angles.
  • Dreams.
  • Trees. Whether I'm climbing them, hugging them, or just basking in the shade, trees are a stable support. They listen when people don't. Yeah 木国!:D
  • Crunchy leaves.
  • Startalk. I was able to learn so much and connect with a lot of people in a very short period of time. It's a bit of a culture of its own. I miss speaking our own special brand of Chinglish, late night "pranks," Chinese only days, class, dialogues, and character races. And everything else. I still see some of my teachers around campus, and we can just strike up a conversation. I met some of my best friends at Startalk.
  • Food.
  • The standard of life I enjoy, which is much higher than in many places in the world.
  • People who read my blog. Especially those who comment :3 love you guys!
And... that's all for now, folks!
