The Chinese word for "soulmate" is 知音。It's a shortened form of the title of this post--roughly translated into English, it's "know music." Soulmate in Chinese has a different connotation. It's not necessarily romantic, it can just mean friends. The story goes that this one guy was playing the gu zheng (it's a Chinese instrument) and another person commented, "Oh, great portrayal of the sea right after a storm!" or something like that. The point is, he understood the music.
I have a few soulmates. The people who really get me. I am eternally grateful for them, because without them, life would be so empty. I don't really define myself as a social person, but there are people who I honestly cannot live without.
The ones I don't have to explain everything to. The ones who understand things about me that I don't even know. The ones who I can be me with, and not worry about looking stupid. The ones who love me unconditionally and yet continually inspire me to be better.
(The ones who read this blog :P)
You know who you are.
Thank you.
